Championship Edition #3

After going 2-0 in Football, I decided to see if I could predict who would win in the World Series based on a couple packs of cards.  Because Topps has three sets in the main Baseball series, I was going to do three of these, with the total score determining the winner of the World Series.  But I didn't get the first two posted, so instead it will all be in one long post.

For the record, I'm cheering for the Royals, as are most of the people I work with.

Like in Football, Parallels and Inserts act as tie breakers.  Each card earns 1 point for their league's team, with Royals and Giants cards counting as 2.    Obviously I wasn't going to include the team points for the first two sets (since there was no way of knowing who would be in the World Series) but since I am posting this a couple days before Game 1, I will.

Series 1

American League (8)
National League (11)
Darek Jeter (Yankees)Marcell Ozuna (Marlins)

Bruce Rondon (Tigers)Henderson Alvarez (Marlins)
Matt Harvey (Mets)
Yasiel Puig (Dodgers)
Eric Stults (Padres)
Ryan Sweeney (Cubs)

Not looking good for the Royals so far, even with some bonus points.  But there are still lots of cards to go.  And I got a Twins card (2 if you count Kurt Suzuki, but he isn't listed as a Twin on the cards, so I'm not.

American League (11)
National League (20)
Alex Rodriguez (Yankees)Johnny Cueto (Reds)
Drew Stubbs (Indians)Lance Lynn (Cardinals)
Matt Tuiasosopo (Tigers)Chris Owings (Diamondbacks)

Wade Miley (Diamondbacks)

The Future Is Now--Yoenis Cespedes

Crap.  Not looking much better.  The Yes movement seems to be helping the Giants take the early lead.  Lets see what the Series 2 jumbo does.

Series 2

American League (18)
National League (29)
Jesse Cain (Astros)Ryan Braun (Brewers)
Colby Rasmus (Blue Jays)Marlon Byrd (Phillies)

Alex Presley (Twins)David Wright (Mets)
Taylor Jordan (Nationals)
Red Hot Foil--Ian Kennedy (Padres)
Saber Stars--Matt Carpenter
1989 Mini--Robin Yount

That was a little more even.  The Royals are still losing, but at least they didn't lose as much ground that round.  Now for the second half of the jumbo.

American League (30)
National League (33)
Bud Norris (Orioles)Edwin Jackson (Cubs)
Josh Hamilton (Angels)Ryan Ludwick (Reds)

Mike Moustakas (Royals)
Phil Hughes (Twins)
Green Parallel--J.J. Putz (Diamondbacks)
Blue Parallel--Jake Petricka (White Sox)
Blue Parallel--Chris Archer (Rays)
The Future Is Now--Jarrod Parker

HOLY CRAP!!  Now that is a come back! The Royals are still losing, but they dominated this part of the series!  Lets see what the last part does.  It was going to be a jumbo of Update Series, but as I have said before, my local Walmart is stupid and they don't have any yet.  They were also out of jumbos for Series 1 and 2, so instead I picked up three regular packs of Series 2.  I will be listing them all together instead of by pack.

Series 2 packs

American League (49)
National League (49)

Alex Presley (Twins)
Wade Davis (Royals)
Rick Porcello (Tigers)
Power Players Parallel--Ivan Nova (Yankees)
Breakout Moment--Zack Wheeler
The Future Is Now--Taijan Walker
Man, that was an exciting one.  The Royals kept taking the lead and then losing it back to the Giants, but in the end they managed to tie the series.

Haven't had to do a tie breaker yet.  If I was going based just on the base cards, the Royals might have the win because the score of Royals VS Giants is 4-2.  But that isn't how the tie breaker works (Unless the score is still tied after using the Parallels and Inserts.) Lets check the Parallels.  All cards have already been listed.

Tie Breaker--Paralles

American League (53)
National League (54)
Green Parallel--Mark Trumbo (AngelsRed Hot Foil--Kolten Wong (Cardinals)
Blue Parallel--Jake Pericka (White Sox)Red Hot Foil--Ian Kennedy (Padres)
Blue Parallel--Chris Archer (Rays)Green Parallel--J.J. Putz (Diamondbacks)
Power Players Parallel--Ivan Nova (Yankees)Blue Parallel--Darwin Barney (Cubs)

Blue Parallel--Carlos Gomez (Brewers)
Sad face.  If the cards are right, then the Giants will beat the Royals.  Looks like it will be close though, Like end of Game 7 close.  Guess we will see in about a week.

HOLY CRAP!!!!

Pretty much every Sunday morning, I stop at the local Casey's station on my way to church.  Real Casey's, not Not-Casey's, which used to be a Super America.  Not that this matters to anyone outside of my home town (and even then, probably not them.) but I just felt like clarifying that.

Anyways, I stop at Casey's every Sunday on the way to church.  I'm not a morning person so I grab a bottle of Coke while there.  I also grab a few packs of trading cards while there.  I have been getting Garbage Pail Kids Brand New Series 3 and was planning on getting some GPK Chrome Series 1 cards, but they didn't have them any more.  Probably something about no one buying them. (Was surprised to see some Pokemon Kelos Starter preconstructed decks there though.  They usually only have booster packs.)  So I ended up getting some Best Of WWE cards instead.  Got them home and opened 2 packs.  Nothing great, but nothing bad either.  I think I need most of the inserts, so if nothing else, that made them good.  I opened the third pack and 2 cards in, I saw this...

Just look at that for a moment.  Not the Vincent Price 3-pack.  As awesome as it is (and it is awesome) ignore that and just look at the card I set on it.  Isn't it beautiful.

Best Of WWE has been good to me so far.  2 Shirt relics (Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler) and 1 Mat Relic (Daniel Bryan).  The Ziggler relic came from a retail pack.  And now this too!

It's not like this is the first autograph I've gotten (That would be Brandon LaFell from 2012 Topps Magic).  Or the first from a big name (Will Middlebrooks 2013 Topps Heritage gets that one.) Or even the first Wrestling Auto (Alicia Fox from 2013 Topps WWE) But it is the biggest one I've ever gotten.

When I saw it and realized what it was, I actually dropped the rest of the cards onto my lap, which then fell on the floor when I jumped up from my chair.  Still kind of in shock as I type this.

One of, if no the, greatest wrestler of all time.  Longest reigning champion in WWE History.  8 years in his first reign.  11 years total as Champion.  it was about time last year when he was inducted into the Hall Of Fame and this is the first certified autographed WWE Merchandise (and one of the few autographs he has done period.)

Defiantly the highlight of my collection right now.

Championship Edition #2

It's that time of year again.  In a couple of days it is time for the Superbowl.  Last year I bought a  jumbo pack of Topps Football cards and figured I would see if I could predict the winner of the game with them.  And I did.  So I figured I would give it a try again this year.

In case anyone is wondering, I am voting along conference lines.  the Vikings are in the NFC (as are the Cowboys and Redskins, in fact only the Raiders are in the AFC)  I am cheering for the Vikings West, also known as the Seahawks.  (Think about it.  when people leave the Vikings, apparently they go to the Seahawks.  Dante Culpepper, Sydney Rice, Percy Harvin.  All went to the Seahawks,)

Like last year, each card earns that team's conference (AFC or NFC) a point.  Cards for the Broncos or Seahawks earn them 2 points.  Inserts will count only if a tie breaker is needed.

NFC (11)
AFC (8)
Arizona CardinalsReggie Wayne (Colts)
Charls Johnson (Panthers)Coby Fleener (Colts)
Michael Bush (Bears)Chad Henne (Jaguars)
Detroit LionsBarkevious Mingo (Browns)
Lane Johnson (Eagles)Landry Jones (Steelers)
Zac Stacy (Rams)Jacob Tamme (Broncos)
Kenny Stills (Saints)Elvis Dumervil (Ravens)
Ryan Nessib (Giants)
Kyle Long (Bears)
Cliff Avril (Seahawks)
Gridiron Legends--Eric Dickerson

Things are looking good for the Vikings West...I mean Seahawks.  Even if you include the insert, they are winning.  Lets see what the other half of the Jumbo has.

NFC (19)
AFC (15)
Tony Romo (Cowboys)Johnathan Joseph (Texans)
Casey Hayward (Packers)Geno Atkins (Bengals)
Green Bay PackersLuke Joeckel (Jaguars)
Matt Ryan (Falcons)D.J. Hayden (Raiders)
Patrick Peterson (Cardinals)Mike Gilliselee (Dolphins)
DeAngelo Williams (Panthers)Erick Decker (Broncos)
Theo Riddick (Lions)
Jonathan Franklin (Packers)
Future Legends--Giovani Bernard
1959 Mini--Ndamukong Suh
Legend In The Making--Eli Manning
1000 Yard Club--Wes Welker

No Vikings, and far too many Packers, but it looks like the cards are saying the Seahawks will win.  Just a couple more days to find out if they go 2-0

(No pics for this post yet.  The winning side will have some pics added on Sunday)

ITS ALIVE!!! ALIVE!!!

Yes, this site is still alive.  And I am still collecting.  I just haven't posted on here.  Still surprised I kept the Pack A Day thing going as long as I did.

Completely unrelated to this, but I'm watching Raw as I type this.  Batista returned and Daniel Bryan is talking!  Good show so far.

Back to the blog.  I wanted to post a few things earlier this year (all 4 or so weeks of it.) but haven't yet.  Probably will later.  I won't be posting every day like I was, but I will be posting from time to time.  For sure I will post when I get cards I like a lot.

And if you look in the side bar, you will notice a few things.

1.) I haven't taken down the totals sections for 2013 yet.  That is because I am still posting stuff I bought last year.  Here is an idea of what I am facing.

The stuff in the long boxes are dupes or older stuff that I haven't put in binders yet.  The rest?  All purchased last year.  and you see those cardboard boxes below the long boxes and the blasters above them?  all full of cards I need to sort.  Just in case anyone is wondering, here are the cards I've purchased so far this year.

That's the Retail box of 2013 Topps Baseball series 1 I got last year.  I will probably wait till I fill that and a retail box I got for 2012 WWE Heritage before I move them into a cardboard box.  Oh, and the ones beside the cardboard boxes?  Those are ones I've sorted (and more dupes in the box below them) and just haven't gotten them into binders yet.

So I have my work cut out for me.  Might take a while, and I can't really post the actual numbers until I have them.  the only numbers I have from last year are Autographs and Relics, so at least those numbers are right.

2.)You will also notice I started Player and Team Collections.  Never planned to, but I did.  It won't be a serious thing like some people though.  I won't go seeking out every card I can for those collections.  In fact I will probably include the numbers for the Totals in there for the teams.  Not sure yet.  But these are more a way so I can keep track of such as how many Kirby Puckett and Harman Killebrew cards I have in my collection total.  And any dupes I get will go in a binder.  Right now it is all just baseball players, but that is mostly just because I can't think of any football players or wrestlers that I have cards of that I want to include.  I know there are some, just not sure who all I have cards for.  I will be adding them later.  But for now I thought I would call attention to it because I thought it would be fun to keep track of that stuff.  What can I say.  I'm a nerd.  Statistics are fun.

So it might be a while before I finish sorting all of that. but I'm still looking forward to it.
