Championship Edition #3

After going 2-0 in Football, I decided to see if I could predict who would win in the World Series based on a couple packs of cards.  Because Topps has three sets in the main Baseball series, I was going to do three of these, with the total score determining the winner of the World Series.  But I didn't get the first two posted, so instead it will all be in one long post.

For the record, I'm cheering for the Royals, as are most of the people I work with.

Like in Football, Parallels and Inserts act as tie breakers.  Each card earns 1 point for their league's team, with Royals and Giants cards counting as 2.    Obviously I wasn't going to include the team points for the first two sets (since there was no way of knowing who would be in the World Series) but since I am posting this a couple days before Game 1, I will.

Series 1

American League (8)

Matt Harvey (Mets)
Yasiel Puig (Dodgers)
Eric Stults (Padres)
Ryan Sweeney (Cubs)

Not looking good for the Royals so far, even with some bonus points.  But there are still lots of cards to go.  And I got a Twins card (2 if you count Kurt Suzuki, but he isn't listed as a Twin on the cards, so I'm not.

American League (11)
National League (20)
Alex Rodriguez (Yankees)Johnny Cueto (Reds)
Drew Stubbs (Indians)Lance Lynn (Cardinals)

Crap.  Not looking much better.  The Yes movement seems to be helping the Giants take the early lead.  Lets see what the Series 2 jumbo does.

Series 2

That was a little more even.  The Royals are still losing, but at least they didn't lose as much ground that round.  Now for the second half of the jumbo.

Blue Parallel--Jake Petricka (White Sox)
Blue Parallel--Chris Archer (Rays)
The Future Is Now--Jarrod Parker

HOLY CRAP!!  Now that is a come back! The Royals are still losing, but they dominated this part of the series!  Lets see what the last part does.  It was going to be a jumbo of Update Series, but as I have said before, my local Walmart is stupid and they don't have any yet.  They were also out of jumbos for Series 1 and 2, so instead I picked up three regular packs of Series 2.  I will be listing them all together instead of by pack.

Series 2 packs

Power Players Parallel--Ivan Nova (Yankees)
Breakout Moment--Zack Wheeler
The Future Is Now--Taijan Walker
Man, that was an exciting one.  The Royals kept taking the lead and then losing it back to the Giants, but in the end they managed to tie the series.

Haven't had to do a tie breaker yet.  If I was going based just on the base cards, the Royals might have the win because the score of Royals VS Giants is 4-2.  But that isn't how the tie breaker works (Unless the score is still tied after using the Parallels and Inserts.) Lets check the Parallels.  All cards have already been listed.

Tie Breaker--Paralles

American League (53)
National League (54)
Green Parallel--Mark Trumbo (AngelsRed Hot Foil--Kolten Wong (Cardinals)
Blue Parallel--Jake Pericka (White Sox)Red Hot Foil--Ian Kennedy (Padres)
Blue Parallel--Chris Archer (Rays)Green Parallel--J.J. Putz (Diamondbacks)
Power Players Parallel--Ivan Nova (Yankees)Blue Parallel--Darwin Barney (Cubs)

Blue Parallel--Carlos Gomez (Brewers)
Sad face.  If the cards are right, then the Giants will beat the Royals.  Looks like it will be close though, Like end of Game 7 close.  Guess we will see in about a week.
